Member of the Month — October 2017 — Foster Arcturus

Q: How long have you been playing Final Fantasy XIV? How did you get into it?

Oh god, I dunno, 1 year? I haven’t been playing long, heh. I initially got introduced to it by Eri (Ren Thurston) showing off his WT page. From that, I got more and more curious about the game and after purchasing it for a friend, got into it myself.

Q: What do you consider your main job? What do you enjoy about it?

I identify with the Glamour Aficionado job. Fashion in FFXIV makes me internally happy. On a serious note, I don’t know honestly. Although, the top 4 I always go to are Ninja, Samurai, Dark Knight, and Warrior. Ninja is outright fun, Samurai because 31k Midare Setsugekka, Dark Knight because I can appease my inner edgelord, Warrior because I can just facecharge someone and then cleave them.

Q: What are your usual FFXIV activities?

I usually stand around looking like a dumb idiot or finding new glamours. Otherwise I’m running roulettes, shouting Japanglish at people, or engaging in glorious screenshots.

Q: What’s one activity you’ve wanted to get into on FFXIV but haven’t been able to yet?

In terms of gameplay, I’d love to get my crafters and gatherers up but I’m damn lazy. Meta-wise, I’d LOVE to attempt to host stuff like an FC beach party at Costa Del Sol or glamour contest attesting to a certain theme each month!

Q: What are your current in-game goals? Both short- and long-term.

I wanna clear this raid-tier before we hit the next and perhaps find a long-term glamour. Long-term, I ‘d like to see all my classes level to 70 and one day become a veteran member of this great FC!

Q: Favorite boss fight, and why? Least favorite, and why?

OH MY GOD I LOVE THE ROYAL MENAGERIE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA and I have a special dislike for Steps of Faith because of the amount of explaining I gotta do to sprouts.

Q: What’s the story behind your character name?

I loved Mr. Foster from KF so I put that for my first name and then I thought of a cool sounding archaic name. Arcturus came up, and thus Foster Arcturus came to life.

Q: Share with us your fondest FFXIV memory!

Lyra’s wedding was the most amazing thing I had ever witnessed and participated in. It was the most random, clusterfucked, bamboozled and glorious wedding I had ever attended in FFXIV.

Q: What’s your biggest pet peeve in-game?

Do not put me near someone with a mentor crown but refuses to act like a mentor. I will go off on them.

Q: Predictions for the upcoming FFXIV plot through the 4.x series and into 5.0?

Raubahn becomes a literal wall for Ala Mhigo and is forever known as “Raublock the Defender” and the story ends there because players can’t do MSQ without passing through him, and we all know what happened when Raubahn henshin’d into Raublock before.

Q: Yoshi-P comes to you and asks you to pick the jobs for the next expansion. What do you choose?

BEASTMASTER TANK CLASS PLEASE and probably Blue Mage since people seem to want that.

Q: Tell us about your history as a gamer!

I started playing video games at the age of 4, starting with Sonic Adventure DX and then I got introduced to a game called Team Fortress 2 on an old “gaming” PC I had. After that, I spiraled into the gaming hell which also somehow led me into the visual novel hell as well.

Q: What’s your favorite game of all time? Why?

Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed. I mean come on, it’s a beat-em-up about stripping vampires to expose them to sunlight with different stripping styles. What’s NOT to like?

Q: Have you played other Final Fantasy titles before XIV? What’s your favorite FF?

I’ve played Final Fantasy Mystic Quest before and that’s what introduced me to RPGs. Otherwise not really.

Q: Are you a long-time MMO player, or is XIV your first?

XIV was my first MMO and I’m so glad for that.

Q: Any games you’ve been wanting to play lately?

The Danganronpa series and also Dark Souls 3. I call them the two “D-Games” I wish to play.

Q: What’s your proudest gaming moment/achievement?

You’re implying I actually do things that I can call proud.

Q: What’s your current occupation?

I am identified as an organism known as “Hikikomori”.

Q: Any family? Pets?

I was born in this room, my brother is my computer and my sister is the table. My pet is the wallet I use to buy stuff with.

Q: What are your hobbies outside of playing games?

Sleeping is my super hobby and I love sleeping on a bed. Otherwise I’m weebing out on manga and anime.

Q: What do you believe your personal strengths are?

I’m a gigantic idiot that likes anime and god is on my side, so don’t fuck with me.

Q: What’s your favorite food? Least favorite?

I really, really, REALLY love anything spicy, especially spicy ramen and croissants. I harbor massive hatred for anything chewy that wasn’t meant to be chewy.

Q: What’s your favorite color? Why?

Q: Tell us a fact about you that we probably don’t know.

You all probably don’t know that I fantasize about the entire FC engaging in some sort of epic battle/anime life.

Q: How did you come to join Spectrum?

I came here when I first joined XIV, and Saki invited me in along with some others. I’m quite glad for it, really.

Q: How long have you been a member?

I dunno, I haven’t kept track really.

Q: What’s your favorite FC activity?

Constantly being able to shit talk everyone and get away with it. Mostly.

Q: What would you like to see in the FC in the future?

Why can’t we just be like the Dad of Light people and go to like, Camp Bronze Lake and chill there talking together?

Q: What makes you proud to be a member of Spectrum?

Oh boy, time to say my favored cliched line. I really enjoy the deep bonds this FC shares with each other, it makes the time I spend here extremely enjoyable.

Q: Any shout-outs?

Thank you everybody really, but thank you to Kristen and Matt for helping me integrate into the FC better, Mel for her overwhelming friendliness, and Saki for getting me in here. But of course, last but not least: YOU, for reading this!

Q: What’s the last thing you watched on TV and why did you choose to watch it?

I don’t watch TV, I watch anime on with people. But I last watched Oregairu because it’s a great show which has my soul character in it.

Q: You’ve been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it. What would you do with the elephant?

Care for it and see it grow up healthy. Take it to it’s natural habitat. Hug it and let it go into it’s home.

Q: If you could convince everyone in the world to do one thing at one point in time, what would that thing be?

Q: A penguin walks through that door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?

“ey das a spicy meataball” in an Italian accent. He’s here because there’s a spicy meataball dictating his sombrero deducing powers.

Q: If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

Stare at the ceiling contemplating my pitiful existence.

Q: If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning medal for?

I’d have a pretty good chance of winning the gold medal for rolling on the floor crying.

Q: If you were dictator of a small island nation, what crazy dictator stuff would you do?

Make everybody wear cosplay and that playing video games is a required stress-reliever from work.

Q: What piece of entertainment do you wish you could erase from your mind so that you could experience for the first time again?

I want to experience the whole Metal Gear Solid series all over again because it was amazing.

Q: If you had a clock that would countdown to any one event of your choosing, what event would you want it to countdown to?

Set it as a countdown to when I can next shitpost something clever.

Q: You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

Black because nobody would ever use me and care about me since they already have pencils for what they need.

And now for Spectrum’s thoughts on Foster…

Even though he’s tried to kill me, he’s generally a friendly person.

— Artemis Lygota

Seeing this goofball go from being hesitant to approaching others due to self loathing…to becoming involved with many members and making so many friends has just been such an awe inspiring thing for me. Taking initiatives to try and make hunt groups and special fate linkshells, joining a static, exploring romance…Our little Foster has grown up so much in the time I’ve known him!

— Yuka Tsusaki

Foster once sent me a single millioncorn in the mail many months ago. To this day, it still sits in the mailbox.

— Luxadin Carwyn

he’s an idiot, but sometimes he’s ok

— Tesu Peachu

boster barcturus can make final fantasy xiv great again

— Lyron Wyvern

Vinny genuinely cares about his fellow FC members, both their enjoyment in-game and their well-being, and it shows in everything he does. I’d say that he deserves this big Toblerone.
