Q: How long have you been playing Final Fantasy XIV? How did you get into it?

I’ve been playing since ARR release, but was super off and on and didn’t really start focusing and playing the game until around patch 2.4. I got into it because my coworkers at the time really wanted to get into the game as it was releasing.

Q: What do you consider your main job? What do you enjoy about it?

Scholar! I enjoy how big the toolkit is and it’s the most dynamic and fluid healer I feel. I legitimately haven’t had this much fun healing in any game ever.

Q: What are your usual FFXIV activities?

Usually just hanging out around the FC house. If i’m not there, then I’m usually doing roulettes or Wonderous Tails with people, beast tribes or Gold Saucer, or waiting to do my weekly O1S and O2S clears.

Q: What’s one activity you’ve wanted to get into on FFXIV but haven’t been able to yet?

Crafting. It’s a big investment of time and gil and I just havent had the urge to get going on it haha.

Q: What are your current in-game goals? Both short- and long-term.

Level everything to 70. Then probably clear O3S and O4S, and maybe one day when I’m feeling particularly masochistic, Bahamut Ultimate.

Q: Favorite boss fight, and why? Least favorite, and why?

Favorite Boss has to be Diabolos from Dun Scaith. It’s so anime and over the top it’s amazing.

Least Favorite: Odin. I cleared it while it was current using only PF and Duty Finder groups. It was pretty miserable to pug.

Q: What’s the story behind your character name?

I was thinking about names that sounded good but not too weeby. Eventually I settled on using the name from the Eureka 7 protagonist (It’s a good show, much recommend) and just chopped off the last bit of first name. It rolled off nice and it’s stuck ever since.

Q: Share with us your fondest FFXIV memory!

I don’t think I’ve laughed harder in this game than at Lyra’s wedding. It was amazing and magical and nearly had me doubled over in tears from all the laughing.

Q: What’s your biggest pet peeve in-game?

PEOPLE OVERWRITING MY FUCKIN CHAIN STRAT I SWEAR TO GOD IF I JOIN ONE MORE RABANASTRE GROUP AND SEE MY GODDAMN CHAIN STRAT GET OVERWRITTEN AGAIN-

Q: Predictions for the upcoming FFXIV plot through the 4.x series and into 5.0?

More about setting up Ala Mhigo politically, something will go wrong/some betrayal maybe in Doma, something something Garlean Emperor, something something conquest. 5.0 will either deal with Garlemald proper, Thavnair/Radz-at-Han, or the New World.

Q: Yoshi-P comes to you and asks you to pick the jobs for the next expansion. What do you choose?

Depends on the roles they need to fill. We really need a new tank and healer class, so probably Beastmaster as Tank and Dancer as Healer first. We need a tank job with pet management to round it out imo, and I think a melee-focused support healer would be sweet. If I had to pick DPS? Gambler. Just because it’d be interesting to see a DPS job that is essentially all RNG. AST eat your heart out.

Q: Tell us about your history as a gamer!

Once upon a time, a 3 or 4 year old kid played an educational spelling game on a PC. He thought games were cool. He never stopped playing. He’s now 24, and still thinks they’re cool.

Q: What’s your favorite game of all time? Why?

I legitimately have too many for way too many different reasons. But if I had to pick, its a tie between Super Smash Bros Melee for the Nintendo Gamecube and the Golden Sun series for the GBA. Golden Sun was my first game I ever 100%, and I loved everything about it from lore to characters to combat to just how the world felt. A great start to my RPG addiction haha.

Melee is a favorite for a different reason. While I did really enjoy the game and have lots of memories trashing my best friend and other friends at it when I was younger, it wasn’t till I was older and learned how deep and intricate the game systems are at the highest level that I felt that this was a game that really was incredible. But it didn’t become my favorite till I got interested in competitive Smash. I met a lot of friends and people through this game, including Tesu actually! And for all the bonds and experiences i’ve gotten just being a part of the community, has definately been something special.

Q: Have you played other Final Fantasy titles before XIV? What’s your favorite FF?

Yes, a ton actually haha. For favorites, its actually probably either FFX since it was my first or FF Tactics.

Q: Are you a long-time MMO player, or is XIV your first?

Oh yeah. I played a couple MMOs prior to WoW (Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies), but nothing grabbed me in and didn’t let me go like that until literally FFXIV came out like that game did. I played WoW since Vanilla back in ’04, and raided mid-hardcore from Wrath of the Lich King till mid-Cataclysm. I was a top 10 hunter on my server during Ulduar iirc.

Q: Any games you’ve been wanting to play lately?

I want to give Guilty Gear Xrd more time to actually get good at that game. But as for new games coming out? Nothing really tbh.

Q: What’s your proudest gaming moment/achievement?

Clearing Mimiron Firefighter in WoW while it was current.
Fuck.
That.
Entire.
Fight.
With.
A.
Rake.
That PTSD is worse than my Odin PTSD.

Q: What’s your current occupation?

I am a student attending college for Computer Science. On top of that, I also do some tutoring work on the side, and also help my family manage their real estate with the property management company.

Q: Any family? Pets?

Parents and my adorable doggo Rush. He is the laziest but most lovable big ball of fluff I’ve met.

Q: What are your hobbies outside of playing games?

Usually going to movies, hanging out with friends, eating and cooking good food, swimming or biking and board game/DnD nights.

Q: What do you believe your personal strengths are?

I’m kinda decent at some video games. I guess.

Q: What’s your favorite food? Least favorite?

Cheesecake. Hands down. You give me cheesecake, I will love you forever. And I don’t really have a least favorite? I guess like liver or something.

Q: What’s your favorite color? Why?

Blue. And I honestly couldn’t tell you, I just like it haha.

Q: Tell us a fact about you that we probably don’t know.

I speak fluent Spanish and have lived for awhile in Colombia on a couple occasions.

Q: How did you come to join Spectrum?

Originally I planned to hijack Saki away from you all and bring him to Behemoth (You’re welcome). But then he turned the tables and said he missed the old FC, so our group did a mass exodus from Behemoth to Levi. And I’ve been here ever since.

Q: How long have you been a member?

Almost a year? I think my year is up in December or January. Kristen probably has the actual date written down somewhere.

[[ I do, it’s January 15, 2017. :^) *governmenting intensifies* ]]

Q: What’s your favorite FC activity?

Maps Maps Maps Maps Maps Maps-
Oh and I guess just playing the game with FC people in general. :^)

Q: What would you like to see in the FC in the future?

I expect us to have a World First Crafting and Gathering static.

Q: What makes you proud to be a member of Spectrum?

The fact the entire FC feels like one big family a lot of the time. Everyone in the FC makes this community special and make it feel like home.

Q: Any shout-outs?

First of all to Saki, for being a great friend and also introducing me to all you great people. To Kristen and DR for heading such a wonderful FC. To all the Mods for being accessible and friendly. And to every member of the FC. You all are great and make it a joy to log into the game.

Especially you Boster. Because I feel better about my crappy DPS when I see yours <3.

Q: What’s the last thing you watched on TV and why did you choose to watch it?

Stranger Things! To prep for a halloween party with a one night dnd encounter all themed on it.

Q: You’ve been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it. What would you do with the elephant?

Raise and train the elephant myself. Ride him into battle and teach him to be wild and pure and forever free.

Q: If you could convince everyone in the world to do one thing at one point in time, what would that thing be?

Give me $10 or the country’s equivalent of 10 USD. I’d be rich and finally able to upgrade my poor potato computer.

Q: A penguin walks through that door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?

“Get in the chopper. I don’t have time to explain. I don’t even have time to explain why I don’t have time to explain.” He’s there to take me to BlizzCon because IM REALLY SALTY I DIDN’T GET TICKETS THIS YEAR.

Q: If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

Actually get good at video games.

Q: If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning medal for?

Sleeping in. I can literally never get enough sleep.

Q: If you were dictator of a small island nation, what crazy dictator stuff would you do?

See this.

Q: What piece of entertainment do you wish you could erase from your mind so that you could experience for the first time again?

Probably Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Just play the game if you haven’t.

Q: If you had a clock that would countdown to any one event of your choosing, what event would you want it to countdown to?

To when I can buy BlizzCon or FanFest Tickets and guarantee getting one.

Q: You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

A nice gradient crayon. Because everything looks better with gradients.

And now for Spectrum’s thoughts on Ren…

Eri (Ren) is a good guy who looks out for the younger people he knows and divulges advice to whoever needs it. He’ll hop along to help you out in dungeons and trials if he’s not busy and he’s pretty great at comic relief, even if it involves mistreating me. Keep being awesome, eh?

— Foster Arcturus

He fantasia’d to a maleqote and keep it until my wedding just to make my wish came true. I mean, I’ve always wanted maleqote harem :”>

— Lyra Wyvern

He’s my scholar main buddy, and I don’t think I’ve ever really seen him in a negative mood. Surprised and disappointed in shit movies, for sure, but I can always appreciate someone with an upbeat attitude.

— Kumo Kumah

Very kind, always helpful and much patient. He is like those, squishy memory foam smilie toy balls.

— Flemely L’mel

Overall I think Ren is a pretty cool guy that seems to be willing to help out his fellow members whenever time allows, and from what I’ve heard especially on the times he raids.
